Xiaomi unveils its own Smart Glasses

Xiaomi continues to advertise products beyond its smartphones. On this occasion, the company has joined the trend of smart glasses, which a few days ago regained interest with the announcement of the first glasses from Facebook and Ray-Ban. Now, the Chinese company has pulled out of its sleeve a product that it has called Xiaomi Smart Glasses.

These Xiaomi Smart Glasses can combine an imaging system and the sensors into an ordinary glasses design through MicroLED optical waveguide technology.  They stand out for weighing only 51 grams and can make calls, navigate, capture photos, display messages, and notifications and translate text right in front of our eyes, as reported by the company.

MicroLED technology

The objective of these glasses is to pass through conventional glasses, and for this, Xiaomi has had to miniaturize much of the technology that it contains inside. That’s where MicroLEDs come in that are individually illuminated and offer higher pixel density and longer lifespan. The Xiaomi Smart Glasses integrate a screening chip that measures only 2.4 mm x 2.02 mm, which is the size of a grain of rice. Xiaomi has detailed that by adopting optical waveguide technology that refracts lights 180 °, the MicroLED screen accurately transmits light rays to the human eye through the microscopic grating structure of the waveguide lens. optics.

These glasses integrate a total of 497 components, including miniature sensors and communication modules, so it is not just a “second screen” for the mobile, but it works as a new intelligent terminal with the ability to operate independently. In addition to the possibility of receiving notifications or seeing incoming calls, we can take photos or translate texts in real-time. An important part of this interaction will be left by XiaoiAi, Xiaomi’s virtual assistant who has not yet visited the West.

Advanced features

In the phone call function, we can see the number of the other person in the glasses when they call us. With the built-in dual-beam speaker and microphone, both parties can be heard with quality. It also has a navigation option suitable for driving or cycling, presenting maps in front of our eyes in real-time, always keeping our eyes on the road. In addition, the Xiaomi Smart Glasses has a 5 mp camera to take photos. They are equipped with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, an integrated battery, and touch control on the temple, as well as a light system that acts as a notification led.

We are in a dilemma

Although we really want to wear these glasses, Xiaomi has not offered a date of commercialization or manufacture of the same. It is a concept with which the firm wants to publicize its plans, we do not know if near or far (we want to think that it will be the first) Therefore, we only have to wait for news about these Xiaomi Smart Glasses and see if they end up becoming in a real consumer product.
