The Chrome OS operating system for computers has been developed by Google and is now ready for the arrival first Chromebooks. Its focus is on gaming, with three code-named devices.
The Chrome open-source developers have published a “Gerrit”, which refers to an RGB lighting function on the keyboard, something that is common in “gaming” devices, as the 9to5Google portal revealed.
This feature will allow users to customize each key on their laptop individually with different intensities of red, green, or blue light. This is something that cannot be done currently using a developer command.
The Chrome OS “Gerrit” points to the feature being prepared to “supported devices”, and 9to5Google discovered three codenames within the code that refers to devices with RGB keyboards.
These first devices were known as Vell. They both use the twelfth-generation Intel Core processors of the Alder Lake series. This could be used to correspond with brands like HP and Lenovo.
They would be the first Chromebook laptops to hit the market if they did. This is because this category is often associated with professional or educational devices.
The third device codenamed Ripple appears to be a detachable keypad compatible with other equipment, such as a tablet.

Google’s next goal for Chrome OS, which runs Chromebooks from companies like Samsung and Acer, is for these lightweight and fast laptops that can access Steam to play video games.
Recent changes to the source code of Chrome OS reveal that the operating system will soon support keyboards with RGB backlighting. These are the multi-colored keyboards that are found in about 99% of PC gaming accessories, components, and devices. 9to5 Google says that this will enable users to set different lighting levels and colors for their keyboards. Some devices will soon have RGB support.
This is in addition to the fact Google has been working for at least 2 years to make Chromebooks natively compatible with Steam. However, they have not yet provided any details. Recent rumors suggest that both Lenovo and HP are currently testing their first gaming Chromebooks. This includes a device codenamed Ripple, whose screen can be removed from the keyboard and used to create a tablet.
